Matthew GoreGarden Design & Landscaping

How it works

Three stages. One person across all of them.

From the first walk-through to the final planted border, here is how a Matthew Gore Ltd project actually runs — and why having one owner-led team carry the whole thing makes the difference clients keep describing.

01

Booked within days

Consultation & design

Matt comes out, walks the garden with you and talks through how you want to use the space — where the sun falls, how you'll move through it, what needs screening and what deserves to be seen. He develops his own designs, and where you've already had plans drawn up he'll often suggest refinements: as one client put it, 'Matt suggested some great ideas to improve the plans I'd had drawn up — these improved the overall look and design.' Then a clear, no-obligation quote, with the whole process 'professionally managed and directed from the initial query.'

  • Free consultation & walk-through
  • Matt’s own designs, or building your designer’s plans
  • Clear, no-obligation quote

02

Days to weeks, by scope

Groundwork & build

One team carries the build — the walls and steps, the driveway or patio, the fencing and decking — with the base and levels set properly before any finish goes down. It's the part you never see, and the part that decides whether the garden lasts. Clients single out the 'careful and tidy excavations to the final lay and finish', and that the garden is 'left clean and tidy at the end of the day/weekends'. Matt stays across it throughout.

  • Base & levels set properly first
  • One owner-led team, start to finish
  • Kept clean and tidy each day

03

On completion

Planting & handover

The soft landscaping ties it all together — lawns laid and beds planted so the garden reads as one design, not a hard shell waiting to be filled. We walk the finished garden with you, leave you with simple care advice, and hand over a space that's ready to be lived in. It's usually the finished result that draws the compliments: clients tell us they've had 'lots of compliments on the work' since — and because this is a settled Harpenden firm, Matt's not hard to find if you need him again.

  • Finished garden walked through with you
  • Simple aftercare advice left with you

Why one team matters most

A garden reads as one considered design only when the levels, the hard landscaping and the planting belong to the same idea — which is exactly why Matt carries it himself, from the first sketch to the last plant.
